Portland Police: Driver taken into custody for reckless driving, ramming police vehicle 

Portland Police took a driver into custody Sunday night after leading them on a cross-city jaunt, avoiding multiple attempts to be stopped and finally losing all the tires. Just before 10:30 p.m., Sunday night, police observed a speeding and reckless driver near Southeast 122nd and Southeast Powell Boulevard.

The driver eluded officers and they did not pursue but continued to watch the car. Police say they made several attempts at pursuit intervention techniques but were not able to bring the vehicle to a stop. Officers finally flattened the tires with spike strips, but the driver continued to drive, causing the tires to fall off. Police say he rammed an undercover officer’s vehicle.

Near the southbound I-5 interchange with I-84, police say they were able to successfully execute a PIT maneuver. The driver tried to get away again, going the wrong way on the freeway. Officers were able to box in the vehicle and take the driver into custody. The driver suffered some injuries so he was taken to a local hospital to be checked out. Once he was released, he was taken to the Multnomah County Jail. Police say 36-year-old Dominic James Morgan has been booked on several charges including two counts of attempted eluding by vehicle and reckless driving.
